Call for Submission: The 39th European Film Awards

The European Film Academy looks forward to receiving your feature-length film submissions and would like to highlight the Early Bird opportunity by encouraging you to submit your films already in March.

We’re looking for bold stories, strong emotions, and films that resonate with audiences all over Europe. Fiction, animation or documentary – we can’t wait to discover your latest work!

Submitting early not only allows you to benefit from the reduced Early Bird fee of 80 EUR (instead of 100 EUR regular), subject to VAT, but also ensures that our committees have sufficient time to give these wonderful films from across Europe the attention they truly deserve.

GENERAL
The 39th European Film Awards will be presented by the European Film Academy and European Film Academy Productions on 16 January 2027 in Athens/Greece.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA (summary)

- Eligible films must be intended for theatrical release and have had their first official screening/world premiere (be it at a festival or at a regular cinema - not the national theatrical release date!) between 1 October 2025 and 30 September 2026 and meet the particular criteria of the respective European Film Awards category.

- The director(s) must be European (list of eligible countries: https://www.europeanfilmacademy.org/about/eligible-countries/): either born in Europe or holding a European passport. The Academy Board may consider non-Europeans provided they have a European refugee or similar status or have lived in Europe and worked in the European film industry for at least five consecutive years (verification required).

- The main production country must be European (list of eligible countries: https://www.europeanfilmacademy.org/about/eligible-countries/).

Further eligibility criteria (at least one applicable):

- Having been selected at least at one major film festival (list of festivals: https://www.europeanfilmawards.eu/list-of-festivals/)

- Having been theatrically released in at least three countries for at least seven consecutive days, or sold for such release
